Scholarship Mindset Series: Step 1, set expectations

I've started a series on Facebook Live to address what I think is the foundation to success in the scholarship process: mindset.

In this FB live episode, which is Step 1 in the process of helping your child get into the scholarship mindset, I discuss the VERY FIRST THING you should do when you start the process.

And the first thing you should do is to have “the talk” with your son or daughter.

No, not that talk -- hopefully you’ve already had that one, and if you can get through that one, you can get through this one!

I’m referring to the financial expectations talk. In this episode I share some ideas of how you might handle that conversation.

The impression (or the mindset) you want your child to walk away with after this conversation is:

1. I’ve always heard university is expensive. Now I know it’s true, and what the costs really are.

2. I’m expected to pay for a portion of my university education (and wow – they REALLY mean it!)

3. I’m expected to put some real effort into finding and applying for scholarships (but my parents are going to help me with it, so it’s not quite as bad as it sounds).

I hope you enjoy the video, and I hope I give you some ideas you can use to handle this very important conversation with your child.

And if you feel so inclined to share, please let me know -- Have you had this conversation with your child? How did it go?

Or if you didn’t have it yet, can you use some of these ideas?

I know I’d like to know, and I’m sure other parents could benefit from some of your tips and ideas too!
